Flammer
Deflagration-safe flame arresters for securing the vents of cofferdams, tested in accordance with European Standard EN ISO 16852 Cofferdams on tankers separate the cargo area from, for example, the engine room or living quarters. If necessary, empty cofferdams are filled with water.
Due to filling, emptying, and temperature fluctuations, gas displacement occurs through the air openings between the cofferdam and the atmosphere. With ship cargoes that require explosion protection, an explosive gas mixture can accumulate in the cofferdam.
To prevent an explosion in the cofferdam, the cofferdam’s venting system must be equipped with a flame arrester that complies with EN ISO 16852 (see also ADN 2015 — 9.3.2.20.4).
As a manufacturer of flame arresters, we have had a new product series, intended for use in the venting of cofferdams, tested in accordance with the ATEX Directive 94/9.
The products, approved by an independent testing institute in accordance with EN ISO 16852 for explosion group IIB, can be supplied with either external or internal threads.
